Highly acclaimed Boston-based bakery announces next location in the heart of Bethesda
Carr Properties is pleased to announce its anchor retail customer, Tatte Bakery & Café, at The Wilson and The Elm, an 800,000 square foot mixed-use development located in downtown Bethesda. Hailing from Boston, Tatte Bakery & Café provides a warm and welcoming atmosphere and offers seasonal breakfast, lunch, dinner and brunch menus, as well as a full display of handmade pastries, bread, cakes and tarts, all made in-house with carefully sourced fresh ingredients. Anticipated to open in November 2020, Tatte Bakery & Café will occupy approximately 4,000 square feet of The Wilson’s ground floor retail, fronting Wisconsin Avenue and an expansive 12,500 square foot shared outdoor plaza – all of which is positioned directly above the new Purple Line Station and Red Line Metro entrance.
Founder and owner of Tatte Bakery & Café, Tzurit Or, is a self-taught pastry chef from Israel. She opened her first location in 2008 after just one summer of selling her artisanal creations throughout Boston farmers’ markets and now operates 15 locations, with an additional six openings slated for this year. With every new location, Tzurit continues to not only lead the culinary direction of Tatte’s European and Israeli-inspired menu, but also the interior design of each café. Her goal is to create a welcoming space of gathering for her customers, “You treat yourself when you come to Tatte, you are comfortable and welcomed, and feel as though you belong,” she explains.
This location at The Wilson and The Elm will be Tatte Bakery & Café’s flagship location in Bethesda, Maryland. “I wanted to bring Tatte to more markets and fell in love with DC. Tatte is a neighborhood brand and I wanted to be part of the beautiful neighborhoods and communities in DC and surrounding towns. There is a great and special mix of people from all around the globe and a level of sophistication that I connected with. I felt DC could be a wonderful journey for us,” Tzurit shares.
While Carr Properties is well known as a commercial developer, owner and operator, The Wilson and The Elm showcase Carr Properties’ growing and expansive suite of service capabilities, across multi-family and retail. This three-tower, mixed-use development consists of The Wilson, a 361,000 square foot office tower, which will welcome notable customers, such as FOX 5 DC and ProShares, to the building later this year. Additionally, The Elm marks Carr Properties’ entry into multi-family with two residential towers consisting of 456 apartment homes. Below these towers sits approximately 12,000 square feet of retail space and an outdoor plaza.
